In this lesson we learnt about a mask the use of a mask and how to use it for non destructive editing. A layer mask is used to control a layer’s transparency. It is good if you wish to reveal or hide portions of a layer using a mask allowing you to effectively remove or erase something in a non destructive manner. meaning you do not destroy the image and you can always get that part of the photo back.
We used a layer mask to edit a cityscape and change the colour of the sky to do this we first tested with a destructive method. Which was to use the magic wand tool. The magic wand tool works by selecting pixels based on tone and colour and making a selection which you can work within so we used it to Select the sky in the image and delete it then we would erase the excess. After that create a new layer and then click and hold the paint bucket tool and selected the gradient tool. The Gradient tool creates a gradual blend between multiple colours. I chose to go with turquoise and white and then I brought the layer behind the building layer so that it wasn’t over it and I was done.
